The product title is a key part of the product data used by Catch to return the most relevant products to a buyer in search results. However, the product titles on your ecommerce store may not be descriptive enough for Catch so you can edit/change product titles in CatchFeeder without impacting your ecommerce store.


Product Title Guidelines for Catch

  • A customer should be able to read the title without seeing the picture and know exactly what the product and purpose is.

  • Acceptable:  

    • Min detail -Brand, Gender, Model, Product and Colour  

    • Proper Case - capitalising the first letter of each word

    • Necessary keywords. E.g. “Walking” if you were selling walking shoes.

  • Not Acceptable

    • ALL CAPS

    • Words such as: New, Bargain, Great Deal, Lowest Price, etc.

    • Vague titles like “Women’s Shoes”

    • Spam Title with irrelevant keywords

    • Duplicate words

TIP: Product titles return search results just like Keywords. Think about what best describes your product and what your customers will search for.


CatchFeeder allows you to modify product titles for Catch individually, for a group of products or for all products using rules.


How to modify product titles individually

  1. To change an individual product title, in the left menu go to "Products - Catch" 
  2. Find the product you wish to modify and click on the actual product title to bring up the modify field (as shown in the screenshot below) and enter the desired Catch product title you require. 
  3. Click the 'tick' to save.




How to create a product name template for a Group of Products 


This is useful if you want to create a rule for product titles and apply it to a group of products - not all products.

  • Go to 'Products - Product Groups'. Click 'Add a product group'. Define the group of products you want to have the product name rule applied to.

  • Go to 'Products - Product Actions' then click the button 'Create product title'. Complete the required fields and make sure you select the Product Group you created.

  • A good example of this feature for a clothing retailer might be to create a product group from a category such as 'new in store'. The product name rule you could add might be: $productName 'new in store' by $brandName. For all products in the group the title would then have the name and 'new in store by the Brand Name.


Create a product naming template for ALL products

  • To create a product naming template for all your products, use the left hand menu to select  "Settings --> Feeds --> General;": 

  • By default, the product name template is blank so that the standard product title from your eCommerce store is used. 

    e.g.

  • Enter the rules you would like to create the titles for Catch. e.g $productName by $BrandName.
  • Click Save.


Creating rules for a group of products or ALL products

  • You can add product attributes to the title by using any of the following values when creating rules.
    • $sku – this is the SKU of your product.
    • $brandName – this is the brand name (if you have assigned one).
    • $retailerName – your store name.
    • $colours – if the product comes in different colours, the list of the colours as you described them, e.g. Coral, Midnight, Gunmetal
    • $standardColours - similar to $colours except the colour names are as mapped to the standard colour names, e.g. Pink, Black, Grey for the above example
    • $productName – the original title of a product.
    • $shortDescription - the short description of the product if provided.
    • $detailedDescription – the long description of the product if provided.
    • $amount – the products selling price e.g $89.95
    • $rrp - product's RRP price
    • $category - the category assigned to a product in the retailer feed/system.

  • You can also remove keywords or replace/add keywords using the -## ##- notation.

    e.g. for a product with the title "Full Moon Dress On Sale", a few examples might be:


    • A product name template to remove the text "On Sale": 
      • Product name template = $productName -##On Sale##-
      • Catch Product Title = "Full Moon Dress"
    • A product name template to replace "On Sale" with "Buy Now" (note the | to split the two): 
      • Product name template = $productName -##On Sale|Buy Now##-
      • Catch Product Title = "Full Moon Dress Buy Now"
    • A product name template to add extra keywords around "Dress" keyword: 
      • Product name template = $productName -##Dress|Party Dress, Evening wear##-
      • Catch Product Title = "Full Moon Party Dress, Evening wear"
        Another example would be:
    • A product with the title: "Converse – Leather Hi Shoe"
      • Product name template = $productName $colours NEW from My Shoe Store
      • Catch Product Title = "Converse – Leather Hi Shoe red, white, black NEW from My Shoe Store"



Checking the product titles and updating Catch


  • Once you've applied rules, you can check what the title will look like on Catch. 
  • Go to 'Products - Catch - Listed'
  • In the table under 'Catch Name' you will see the transformed title.
  • If you're happy with the title, go to the Dashboard and click 'Upload to Catch' to update Catch titles


Products with size AND colour variations


If you have products that have more than one variation such as size AND colour (e.g a sandal in 4 colours and 7 different sizes) DO NOT add $colours or $standardColours to your product title rules. Products with colour variations are created as separate listings on Catch and the colour will be automatically added to the product title for you.

Remember

  • Product attributes are case sensitive, so always enter them exactly as above (e.g $brandName or $sku).
  • If you need to remove multiple pieces of text, add the -##text1##- -##test2##- etc in sequence.
  • Product titles are a maximum of 80 characters. If what you enter is over 80 characters, it will default back to the original title and no changes are applied.
  • Use\ before $ if using a $ sign in your text. For example if you want to add the text: "Special Offer \$20 off for Autumn"
  • If using the second method, an import needs to be completed to modify the titles.
